Genre theorists

Over the years, media readers have come up with certain theories that we can still apply to media today. Theorists who have commented on genre can be applied to the construction of a music video so that I can use their theories to better my own work.

Defines genre as the 'attempts to structure some order' to media texts for the convenience of producers and consumers.

Henry Jenkins

Defines genre as part of a convergence, that there is no set rules on how to make a good peice of media. 

John Hartley

Defines genre as being specific to different societies and cultures, such as, what may be classed as comedy in one society may not be in another.

David Buckingham

Defines genre as being socially decided and genre is in a constant process of change.
